This latest body of work explores texture and surface as a metaphor for everyday space around me. Either drawn, applied or painted from restricted earth palettes, these works manifest me, with figures emerging out of dark passages across a forty-year trajectory of production, these forms frame my lived experience as a mixture of emotions expressed in oils and mixed media. Held in this light, surface becomes vast and animate, charged with feeling that quells my observations. It sets the stage for a practice that treats change as a generative principle — each canvas a different value structure, each drawing a different edge, and each creation a different degree of emergence from the commonplace space that surrounds me.
